Hickory Creek Hollow

Faber, VA · 2026

Fourteen acres of Nelson County hollow around a barn becoming a place people gather.

Fourteen acres in a hollow in Faber, Nelson County, where a large barn is being renovated into a multi-use event space with rooms to sleep in. The landscape has to do two things at once: carry gatherings, and stay a hollow.

The engagement began with survey and site reading — a drone flight, a ground model, and time spent walking the site in the wet and the dry. What the capture is good for and what it is not is stated plainly in the record: it is internally accurate to a few centimetres but sited on the earth to a metre or two, so it is a design instrument, not a plat.

The work is being carried out with the clients inside it rather than presented to them at intervals — the drawings, the budget and the phasing live in a shared workspace they can open any time, which is also where this site's client portal came from.
